Message from the Department Chair

Our Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, housed within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, first began admitting students in the 2018–2019 academic year.

The goal of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is to ensure that dietetics students enrolled in the undergraduate program possess a strong foundation in both basic and applied sciences. Undergraduate students in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics are educated through a curriculum that includes basic medical science courses as well as professional courses such as principles of nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, food microbiology, food chemistry, public health, nutrition in adult diseases, nutrition in pediatric diseases, and institutional food systems, along with practical training conducted in line with these courses. Additionally, students are provided with the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge in the field through a wide range of multidisciplinary elective courses—such as nutrition and behavioral disorders, nutrition in aging, sports nutrition, and enteral and parenteral nutrition—that contribute to their professional development. Furthermore, they are offered the chance to receive education from a broad perspective in the health field through elective courses available in the curricula of other university departments.

The educational content in our department is designed based on the Core Education Program for Nutrition and Dietetics published by the Higher Education Council, aiming to equip students with a strong foundation in the field.

The faculty of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics consists of 2 full-time Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors, and 2 Research Assistants.

Our faculty members, who have completed their doctoral studies at prestigious national and international universities, possess extensive experience in education, teaching, and research both domestically and internationally. With experienced and competent faculty members who have contributed to numerous national and international academic studies, our department is guided by the principles of diversity, innovation, quality, and serving the benefit of our country and humanity. Our department was established with the aim of educating undergraduate students enrolled in our faculty’s programs in the latest advancements in nutrition and dietetics, helping them understand the practical applications of these fields, and cultivating dietitians capable of effectively applying this knowledge.

In addition to teaching foundational science courses at the undergraduate level, actively participating in the university’s research activities is a crucial component of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics’ mission. The department’s faculty members aim to be pioneers in scientific research within their fields through the research projects they conduct, the scientific articles they publish in reputable international journals, and the scientific presentations they deliver at prestigious conferences. Furthermore, another objective is to conduct joint scientific studies with faculty members from other units of the university, particularly through the development of interdisciplinary projects. The 2021-2025 Strategic Plan serves as a roadmap designed to achieve the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University’s goals in line with its vision. Our department’s primary goal is to contribute to the university’s success and elevate its ranking in global university rankings.
