General Information

 

Objectives of the Program
Department of Nutrition and Dietetics aims to carry out its activities as a department which conducts research and application in various fields such as determination of nutritional status of society, determination and evaluation of problems and priorities, searching for solution ways to improve the nutritional level of the country, suggesting and implementing them, determining and guiding the food and nutritional plans and policies of the country, food analysis, determination of nutritional requirements of different age groups, regulation and implementation of disease-specific diets, management and organization of food service in institutions providing mass nutrition services.

Program Profile
Teaching, learning, and research activities are conducted by 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 5 assistant professors, and 2 research assistants. Our annual enrollment capacity is 70 students. The language of instruction for the program is Turkish. The program includes required and elective courses related to the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. A Summer Internship (at an external institution) is conducted at the end of the third year. Students receive practical training in various fields during the seventh and eighth semesters.

Graduation Requirements
Credits and Courses: Courses are given each year in the fall and spring semesters. In order to graduate from the program, 240 ECTS credits must be completed.
Internships: Nutrition and Dietetics program envisages a teaching internship and a study area.
Community Health Internship: The aim of this internship is to determine the nutritional status and nutritional habits of the society and to raise awareness of the individual and the society on adequate and balanced nutrition. The internship is applied in the field under the supervision of the faculty members. Fieldwork can be done in rural and urban areas. The internship lasts 6 weeks (30 working days).
Institution Internship: This internship aims to teach the institution and hospital dietitian, researching and educating techniques. This internship covers one academic year. Three internships is done, adult diseases clinical internship I-II, pediatric diseases clinical internship I-II and institutional food systems internship I-II. Adult diseases clinical internship and pediatric diseases clinical internship; to gain the skills and ability to work together with the personnel in charge of patient care and treatment such as physician, nurse, manager, cook, waiter, and to learn the profession of dietician (duties, responsibilities, working areas and working techniques, etc.), difficulties and observations faced by the professional staff pathways.

Qualification Degree
After 4 years of education, graduates receive a bachelor's degree in “Nutrition and Dietetics “.

Dietitians are health professionals who have successfully completed the nutrition and dietetics education program and received the bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics.

Passing to Upper Degree Programs
Graduates can apply to Nutrition and Dietetics, Child Health, Internal Diseases of Nutrition, Public Health, Phytotherapy and Sports Sciences master and/or doctorate programs.
