Social Work for Addicts: Experiences, Challenges and Opportunities Event Held

As part of the “Social Work Department Activities,” our university organized a program titled “Social Work for Addicts: Experience, Challenges, and Opportunities” for students, staff, and the public. The speaker at the event, which took place in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Conference Hall, was Baybars Kaan Yeşilırmak, who works as a Social Services Specialist at the Balıkesir Yeşilay Counseling Center.

The seminar began with opening remarks by our Department Chair, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, and our Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin ESECELİ. Yeşilırmak discussed social service work in the field of addiction from institutional, professional, and individual perspectives. He detailed interventions carried out under the Yeşilay umbrella for individuals with addictions, social work processes implemented at YEDAMs, and efforts to reintegrate individuals with addictions into society. He also shared his personal experiences regarding the challenges encountered in the profession and the opportunities offered by social work.

At the end of the program, students had the opportunity to gain comprehensive information about both social service practices in the field of addiction and the speaker's personal professional experiences by asking questions. The event concluded with our Department Chair, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, presenting a certificate of appreciation to Baybars Kaan Yeşilırmak.
