Our department organized a Social Work Student Symposium.
Our department held a Social Work Student Symposium on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Conference Hall, featuring presentations by our senior students. The program was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Eseceli, the Head of the Social Work Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, department faculty members Prof. Dr. Recep YILDIZ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Keleşoğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Aca, and the Head of the Health, Culture and Sports Department, Mehmet KARATEPE, along with our students.
The symposium consisted of four sessions where students presented their work prepared under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Recep YILDIZ during the semester. The first session, themed "Family," shared findings and conclusions reached after qualitative research. Eda Nur Kaya and Havva Gündüz analyzed the answers given by young people to the question, "Family Pressure or Family Compassion?" Gamze Özkez shared findings and conclusions on “Expectations of University Students with Divorced and Non-Divorced Parents Regarding the Family Structure They Will Establish in the Future”; Yaşar Kurt on “Family Norms and the Feeling of Trust from the Perspective of Adolescents”; and Sudenaz Kantaroğlu on “The Deformation of Online Gambling on Family and Social Life.” Ceyda Demir and Melike Aktaş also presented a literature review on “The Social Life Experiences of Seasonal Workers.”
In the second session, themed “Women and University Youth,” participants evaluated the findings of their qualitative research. Nisa Nur Sarı and Sude Babadağ, who interviewed women who experienced violence, and Nisanur Özmen, who interviewed social workers, shared their findings on “Reasons Why Women Experience Violence by Their Husbands Despite Legislation and Practices”; and Gülben Pehlivan shared her findings on “The Experiences of Social Exclusion of Divorced Women.” In the same session, Esra Sarıtunç presented her research findings on "Unemployment Concerns and Future Expectations of Final Year University Students"; Melek Sude Öztürk and Fatma Akın presented their findings on "Social Adaptation Processes of University Students Transferring Horizontally and Vertically".
In the second session, themed "The Elderly and the Disabled"; Rüya Balkancı and Feyzanur Çakkal evaluated the findings and results of their qualitative research on "Experiences of Neglect and Discrimination Among the Elderly"; Ayşenur Sena Tekin on "Systemic Deficiencies of Social Exclusion in Old Age"; and Beyzanur İlce and Sıla Şirin on "Exclusion of the Elderly Experiencing Problems with Accessing Technology". In the same session, Irmak Aydın and Uğur Hünerci shared their qualitative research findings on "Accessibility of Shared Living in Common Areas for People with Disabilities", and Kader Bilinmiş on "Problems Experienced by Families with Disabled Members in the Fields of Health and Transportation".
In the final session titled “Digital Media,” Sevda Kara evaluated the findings of her qualitative research on “Digital Parenting,” Buse Bengü Kalabalık on “Parental Approaches to Children’s Digital Media Use,” and İbrahim Arslan and Leyda Nur Erşahin on “Social Media Addiction in Young People.”
The sessions, which also included preventive and protective suggestions for solutions within the context of social work, concluded with a general evaluation by Prof. Dr. Recep Yıldız. The symposium ended with a group commemorative photograph.
