Our Head of Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, gave a conference for families with disabled children.

Our Head of Social Work Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, participated as a speaker in the conference titled "Communication in Families with Disabled Children," organized to address the communication difficulties faced by families with disabled children.

Organized by the "Give Color to My Disability" Association and held on Saturday, January 31st at the Bandırma Municipality Harun Karacan Youth and Sports Center, the event evaluated the communication processes that families establish with their spouses, children, close circles, and society from a social work perspective.

The conference focused on:

forms of intra-family communication and interaction,

sharing of responsibilities and burdens between spouses,

establishing healthy boundaries with family members living together,

parents creating space for themselves,

relations with public institutions and the social environment,

strengthening social support networks.

Our Head of Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, emphasized the importance of making visible not only the psychosocial needs of families with disabled children but also their own, highlighting the crucial role of strong communication and social support mechanisms in improving the quality of life for these families.

The event concluded with an interactive session where participants' questions were answered and experiences were shared. It was stated that such initiatives are a concrete reflection of the social contribution and awareness mission of the Social Work Department at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University.
