Brief History

Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University which is one the youngest universities of Turkey established on 23 April 2015 with the mission “Bridge To The Future”.

Our university has started its academic life with educational institutions taken over from Balıkesir University which has a long history of 23 years..

Bandırma School of Health, which is affiliated to Balıkesir University, has been transformed into a faculty and changed its name and connection to Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Faculty of Health Sciences currently operates in the historical building, also known as the former military branch. Construction of this historic building started in 1901 and was used as the Headquarters of the Redif Barracks between 1902-1925. During the First World War (1915-1921) served as a Military Hospital. The 127th Infantry Regiment Headquarters established in the region between 1921-1940 was used as the Konak Command and Military Hospital No. 231 during the 1940-1950 period. In 1950, Military Hospital and Konak Command was terminated. From 1950 to 1986, it was used as a Bandırma Military Service for 36 years. It was not used for eight (8) years after the branch was moved to its new building.

After the restoration was completed by the Ministry of Health in 1994, it started to be used as the building of Bandırma Anatolian Health Vocational High School. In 1996, it was transferred to Balıkesir University Bandırma School of Health with the protocol between the Ministry of Health and YÖK. It was established as Balikesir University Bandırma School of Health with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 10.10.1996 and numbered 96/8655. Our school started its education life in 1998 with undergraduate students in the Department of Nursing, and gave its first graduates in 2002. As stated above, Bandırma School of Health, affiliated to Balıkesir University, was transformed into a faculty with the Law No. 6640 published in the Official Gazette dated April 23, 2015 and numbered 29335, and became the Faculty of Health Sciences by changing its name and connection.
