An Academic Promotion Ceremony Was Held at Our University

An Academic Promotion Ceremony was held in honour of our academic staff who have successfully completed a significant stage in their academic careers and earned promotion. The ceremony, held in the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Lecture Hall, provided a meaningful occasion to celebrate academic endeavour and scientific achievement.

The programme began with a minute’s silence and the playing of the National Anthem. Our Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz, then delivered the opening address. In his speech, our Rector emphasised that academic promotion is not merely a change of title, but an indication of increased responsibility and a commitment to scholarly output, stating: “The first commandment of the Holy Qur’an is ‘Read!’ This call is not merely an invitation to read; it marks the beginning of humanity’s journey from darkness to light. The verse ‘Can those who know be equal to those who do not know?’ reminds us of the supremacy of knowledge.” The Prophet’s saying, “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim,” and the hadith, “The ink of the scholar is superior to the blood of the martyr,” highlight the exalted status of knowledge and scholars in the eyes of society. For centuries, scholarship in these lands has been understood not merely as the production of knowledge, but as the pursuit of truth, the establishment of justice, and the promotion of the common good. Our civilisation has, for centuries, regarded scholarship as a ‘school of wisdom’, held scholars in the highest esteem, and considered the pen to be mightier than the sword. This time-honoured lineage, stretching from madrasas to darülfünuns and from darülfünuns to universities, is the fruit of a tradition that does not merely transmit knowledge but builds wisdom. Today, as a link in that chain of knowledge, we too bear the responsibility of scholarship upon our shoulders. This responsibility necessitates the preservation of both academic integrity and ethical standards. On this significant day, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our lecturers who are celebrating their academic promotion; I would also like to thank their families, colleagues and everyone who has contributed to this achievement. “May God bless your knowledge, sustain your efforts, and accept your service. I would like to reiterate that we will continue to follow our path guided by a philosophy that regards science as our guide, morality as our compass, and humanity as our centre; I greet you all with respect and affection,” he said.

As part of the ceremony, our Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz, presented certificates to the academic staff who were awarded the “Best Teaching and Learning Award” as part of the process designed to promote quality in teaching and learning activities and support academic achievement at our University.

Later in the programme, accreditation certificates were presented by our Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz, to the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Banking and Insurance Programme at Manyas Vocational School, both of which had successfully completed the accreditation processes and thereby demonstrated their compliance with quality standards. This achievement was regarded as a concrete demonstration of our University’s quality-focused approach to education.

As part of the academic promotion process, certificates were presented to our academic staff who were awarded the titles of professor, associate professor and lecturer in 2024 and 2025.

The ceremony, which highlighted academic achievements and institutional solidarity, concluded with a group photograph.
