WHY IS OUR DEPARTMENT PREFERRED?

In the sectoral context, humanity has experienced a change from agriculture to industry, from industry to service sector, and one of the important components of the service sector is social work. Social work is a field that mainly deals with social problems, the results and solutions of social problems and the effects of these problems on people. Social workers trained in this field also provide a service that provides personal and social development based on the results and solutions of social problems.

The nature of human relations in the modern society requires professional help and support to overcome the problems faced by individuals or families. The number of disadvantaged people is increasing day by day, due to the conditions they live in, their personal characteristics or other reasons. This situation reveals the need for qualified personnel to work on issues such as meeting the needs of individuals who need social assistance or support due to its disadvantage, eliminating or minimizing dysfunction. Social Work, which emerged and developed as a science and a profession, meets this need with social workers equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills, who have received field education and have ethical principles.

Social work education has become one of the basic higher education fields in many countries of the world. It is seen that there is an emphasis on social work education all over the world: in the United States, England, Continental Europe, Asia, Japan, India, the Philippines, Australia, Latin American countries... In these countries, the number of professional social workers is increasing day by day.

Turkey has begun to open up social work departments in accordance with these requirements. For example; an important part of Turkey's population consists of elderly population and it is stated in the reports that the ratio of this population to the general population will increase in the coming years. Considering the phenomenon of social and demographic aging, the problems of the elderly population and the need for service for this population, the need for trained staff in the field of social work is more clearly seen. The same need makes itself felt in disadvantaged groups such as children, women, disabled, refugees and issues such as substance addiction and violence.
